The following is the schedule for Wollongong, New South Wales, Australia commercial television station WIN-4 for a week in June 1966. Which shows would you have watched from this line-up? As you can see, most of the shows are either American or British, with an English-dubbed Japanese show thrown in as well. Australian series, apart from sports and news, included a version of game show "It Could Be You", music series "Country and Western Hour", "Bandstand", "Kommotion" and "Bobby Limb's Sound of Music", local children's series "The Channel 4 Club", and variety series "The Tonight Show".

Along with WIN-4, Wollongong viewers could also watch a public TV station that was basically a relay station of ABN-2 in Sydney, which broadcast many British shows. I have read that many viewers in the area could also pick up Sydney commercial stations like ATN-7 and TCN-9.

No doubt I made various errors while copying this information.

Adding to the above, here's the current TV schedule for Wollongong. The station listed as 9 HD is basically what used to be WIN 4:

The Big Valley
The Red Skelton Hour
Perry Mason

I wish that more of the Perry Mason episodes had been based on the novels.

Speaking of which, I wish they'd put Perry Mason on a streaming service here in Australia. I haven't seen the show, but I think I'd enjoy it. We have Paramount+ here but the selection of shows is more limited than what they have in the U.S., and the selection of shows available to stream in Australia includes a lot of shows nobody here has heard of like "Teen Mom", while at the same time not including many of the most popular shows owned by the Paramount/CBS.

Growing up in the US during the late 19050's early 60's I watched over half of these. We did not have Brian Henderson's Bandstand but did have an American version. Surprisingly similar but the performers are different.

The 1960's Perry Mason series is like a comic book on film. The books are well written and the screenwriters do a good job of edited down the plot into one hour. The new version suffers from this centuries reliance on visual and writing techniques that do not advance the thoughts, just the nerves.

We still had only one black & white TV at the time. It wasn't a matter of what we wanted to watch it was what we had to watch. Some were and still are I Dream of Jeannie, Bewitched, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Bob Hope Special, Tonight Show, Perry Mason, Honey West, The Texan...
