A year or two ago, I listened to a British radio drama but can't remember the name or author. I think it was from the '90's. Plot is below; it was a great episode, so this part I remember.
(Spoiler alert): an astronaut is held in a facility, unable to see family. Turns out he was infected in space by a horrible virus which winds up decimating the human race. His jail is in a space station orbiting the Earth because the survivors despise him, even though it wasn't his fault that he was infected. His only human contact, thru an observation window, is a woman who works for the government. Time passes rather quickly for the astronaut, but decades have passed on Earth and eventually the woman is replaced by a new official. The astronaut is immortal.
