This isn't really a proper reply, but I wanted to add that I think it would be cool if local news from the smallest US TV markets was recorded, such as Alaskan newscasts. There's a strong chance those newscasts are not being kept by the stations.

To add an extent to your response, I don't think any news channel, except maybe CNN and FOX, holds any archives of its earlier broadcasts at all. What you suggest will help filling this gap quite considerably, especially in remote markets like Alaska.
