WEBVTT 01:00.000 --> 01:21.680 September 1965 saw the return to our screens of Doctor Who for its third series with a 01:21.680 --> 01:23.800 story called Galaxy 4. 01:23.800 --> 01:28.400 Now sadly Galaxy 4 was one of the many which didn't survive the mass junking of archive 01:28.400 --> 01:30.800 material by the BBC in the 1970s. 01:30.800 --> 01:36.640 And to make matters worse, and unlike many of the later Doctor Who stories, no tele-snaps, 01:36.640 --> 01:40.640 no publicity, hardly any publicity photographs, and virtually no photographic evidence of 01:40.640 --> 01:44.040 any kind remains for this serial. 01:44.040 --> 01:50.760 Apart from that is one five minute tele-cine segment and one short section which was recorded 01:50.760 --> 01:52.560 off screen by a fan. 01:52.560 --> 01:53.560 Nothing else exists. 01:53.560 --> 01:57.840 Consequently the reconstruction of this story has been done in a rather unique way. 01:57.840 --> 02:04.320 It has made use of what publicity photographs and what on set photographs remain, plus existing 02:04.320 --> 02:10.960 material from other stories and various filmed reconstructions made by the Loose Cannon team. 02:10.960 --> 02:15.280 Very brave project and I think they've succeeded rather well. 02:15.280 --> 02:19.920 Now at this time stories were still being written in their original drafts for the Doctor's 02:19.920 --> 02:22.200 original companions, Ian and Barbara. 02:22.200 --> 02:26.560 So I unfortunately got landed with a great number of the lines which were meant and intended 02:26.560 --> 02:28.240 originally for Barbara. 02:28.240 --> 02:32.120 Consequently my character Stephen really never came to the surface at all, for which I was 02:32.120 --> 02:33.120 rather disappointed. 02:33.120 --> 02:39.040 I also was rather upset by the fact that in one of the scenes Stephen was overpowered 02:39.040 --> 02:41.040 by Marga, the leader of the Dravins. 02:41.040 --> 02:45.800 Though I suppose for many people to be overpowered by a magnificent Amazonian lady would be the 02:45.800 --> 02:47.520 stuff of their dreams. 02:47.520 --> 02:51.640 But I have to say that in spite of the fact that four magnificent leading ladies who played 02:51.640 --> 02:57.240 the Dravins was not sufficient to make Galaxy 4 one of my favourite stories. 02:57.240 --> 03:01.800 Obviously with the limitations that I've already told you about it would be impossible for 03:01.800 --> 03:06.040 a complete reconstruction to be made exactly like the original. 03:06.040 --> 03:11.000 But the Loose Cannon team have been working away like mad for over a year on this particular 03:11.000 --> 03:12.000 reconstruction. 03:12.000 --> 03:16.320 They've done a marvellous job and I think you'll enjoy what they have done with Galaxy 03:16.320 --> 03:23.320 4.
