on the congress on immigration. the constitution is clear which branch of government has power and that is congress. it is therefore fitting that we welcome today a member of congress who is going to spell out what that branch proposes to do to maintain its authority. senator sessions of alabama. he's been a leading place voice on this issue and he will lay out what options are open to the president's announcement. president obama has the damaging crisis is now incumbent on the other branches to have their say they told them again and again it's not at the top of their priorities and that includes hispanic americans as we saw recently in the research poll. issues like education and economy. it does nothing on these entire fronts. there are less incentives to assimilate. it's the reason why they are also empowered to the congress. immigrants have been attracted to come here because we have a rule of law and it's the rule of law we have to return to. we have senator sessions i would like you to join me today in welcom

in fact, carrying out the law of congress that the congress at that time had just passed. they established policies that were later put into statute in 1990. president obama is threatening to act directly against the wishes of congress and on a far greater scope and scale. that is why i and 21 other senators wrote to the president on april 24 to express our grave concerns about the lawfulness of what was reportedly under consideration. and, of course -- and apparently our warnings were not heeded. and now, if the president acts after repeated calls by congressional leaders not to do so, it will severely damage his relationship with the new congress elected by the american people. but the core issue is this -- under our constitution the congress makes the laws. and under article 2, section 3, the president is charged with taking care that these laws are faithfully executed. but if president obama effectively legalizes people who are here unlawfully, no one will be able to reasonably argue that he is faithfully executing our laws. once again, that doesn't pass the laugh test
