spreading all across the area. don't be surprised either if you hear a rumble of thunder tonig tonight. feel strong gusty winds. good evening, i'm dawn timmeney. lucy is off tonight. i'm iain page. the weather authority chief meteorologist scott williams is tracking all this for us. what's on your radar tonight, scott. >> right now, of course, dawn and iain, we're track to go night's system. that rain has begun to move toward the philadelphia area south jersey as well as delawa delaware. but most of the action still off to the west even reports of severe weather and funnel clouds through sections of charleston, west virginia, moving into northern sections of kentucky. now anticipating tornadic activity but we could see some gusty thunderstorms out of this system. so the bottom line right now the thunderstorm activity moving in from the west and as we move into the overnight scattered showers and storms. some gusty winds. we could see winds gusting over 30 miles per hour. how much rainfall? about half an inch of or more on average and then as we move toward tomorrow morning, there could be a leftover shower clearing but

evening. chaos at this pathmark on cottman avenue in northeast philadelphia after a man was stabbed in the face and the neck by another man in the produce aisle. >> blood on the floor and all, so -- it was scary. i've been in pathmark over 32 years. first time i ever seen someone -- something like this happen. >> it's scary. it really is. because you think you going into a safe place, you're going shopping for food, you don't expect violence. >> reporter: police say at least 100 shoppers were in the store when the suspect attacked the victim. police believe they know each other hadn't some kind of dispute. >> there was a verbal altercation. it turned into a physical altercation and then our 40 year old perpetrator pulled out a knife and stabbed the 50 year old victim. >> reporter: police rushed in to get people out of the store but they were surprised by the persistence of some shoppers. >> many customers in the store that were shopping standing on the blood pushing their shopping carts over the blood and we had to tell them that's human blood. they had to get out of the store

as soon as possible. >> some people actually asked the police if they could reach on the shelf and grab some dairy product that is where most of the blood was we had that area cordoned off. >> reporter: workers tell us it's site they'll never forget as they continued work through the madness. >> it was nerve racking to ring out customers. >> reporter: nerve racking indeed. police tell us they arrested the suspect about a mile away walking down railroad tracks. they also say the weapon were you kitchen knife they recovered that weapon. the suspect is facing aggravated assault charges also weapons offenses and police tell us that the victim is expected to survive his injuries. dawn? >> all right. dave, thanks so much. happening now a fire air tanker crashes in california. firefighters say the plane was flying over a wildfire near yosemite national park. officials say this type of plane is flown by single pilot there's no other crew on board. it's unclear right now what happened to the pilot, of course, we'll keep an eye on this developing story throughout

newscast. back here at home a firefighter is injured battling flames. sky fox over the scene over chesterfield, jacobs town road in north hanover. initial reports said the fire was caused by an explosion in the garage. the firefighter was taken to robert wood johnson hospital with minor injuries. fortunately no one was else hurt. >> developing now, a heated meeting with some worried parents local officials in new jersey where little boy died of enterovirus d68. there are now more confirmed cases of the enterovirus in the state, ton night parents are questioning hamilton township's response to a case of enterovirus d68 that killed a pre-schooler. fox 29's sabina kuriakose live tonight. the meeting got a little inten intense. >> reporter: parents were asking tough questions of council members. five new cases confirmed today by the new jersey department of health in the state of enterovirus did thenterrevere d.

they a lot of questions for council. >> council members grilled over what they knew and when after a yardville elementary school pre-schooler he lie waller fell sick and died from what was later confirmed to be enterovirus d68. >> four year old's should not die in this country, and if they do, it's supposed to be looked into and it's supposed to be -- have the best attention. >> message that we've all tried both myself, our administration, our staff this is a community partnership that eli's death will probably never know where that virus came from. but it's a partnership for parents, for educators, for business owners, for all of our citizens to understand personal hygiene is the way you prevent this. >> reporter: township and health officials vigorously defending their response saying they acted swiftly as they could to clean and sanitize the school and inform parents so council members admitting they learned of eli's dental in different

ways. >> i found out through the pap paper. >> angry parents arguing there were inconsistent cease and not enough information in the school district and health division response. health officials urging cooperation in dealing with enterovirus d68. >> it's still nonsense. and there's no -- there's a disconnect. that's the best word. there is a disconnect. >> the virus is out there. it's not going away. don't be afraid of it. >> reporter: and there is a little boy from eli waller's same classroom who is being tested for enterovirus d68. no word yet from officials on when his test results will return from the cdc. dawn? >> thank you, sabina. meantime officials around the world are joining in the fight against the spread of e boat la virus. there are reports that the spanish nurse who contracted the virus only interacted with a patient a priest with ebola twice. she changed his diaper and cleared out his belongings after -- in his room after he died. new video shows hospital workers

in protective gowns cleaning that priest's room. four people who came in contact with the woman are in now in warranty. nurse is being treated and officials have a court order to euthanize her dog. >> meantime president obama says he is prepared to tighten airport protocols and implement more active screenings for travelers who come from countries fighting the epp depth mick. u.s. is also getting ready to send $750 million and four thus sand military personnel to west africa to build treatment centers and train health care workers there. the case in dallas also has the cdc redouble link its efforts to make sure hospitals are on the look out for potential cases. >> the signs of progress are there but it is going to be a long, hard fight, and i think we should all -- always keep in mind that the enemy here is a virus. and we together can stop that virus. >> the white house promises it won't consider a travel ban on passengers from west africa even

though some lawmakers are calling for it. >> tonight a widener university student facing charges including terroristic threats and simple assault. campus security was alerted about a post on social network site called yik yak. the message threatened to shoot up the campus like virginia tech and columbine. the post was removed but authorities arrived on campus are arrested 20 year old louis vela from lodhi, new jersey, majoring in criminal justice. >> their deaths remain a mystery. even as cooper health system celebrates the life of its late ceo and has wife at a special memorial service today. mourners showing up at the war memorial in trenton to remember john and joyce sheridan. family, friends and lawmakers including new jersey governor chris christie attended. the couple's bodies were found late last month after a fire at their home and later ruled an arson. >> a delaware man is behind bars after troopers find more than 1900 bags of heroin. authorities say they weren't to approach 23 year old man while he was parked in laurel.

they say when they got to his vehicle he pulled off hitting two unmarked police cars. eventually stopped according to investigators and was arrested. officers say the drugs were found near the initial place they trade to stop him. they also say he had close to $900 on him. a bankruptcy judge today approved the sale of atlantic city's revel cass soon know for a fraction of what it costs to build. the judge okaying the sale of the revel 5 cents on the dollar to toronto company. the revel of course costs nearly $2.5 billion to build but closed last month after just two years in operation. the toronto firm which runs a couple of other casinos says it plans to reopen revel as a casino as well. >> police are on the hunt for a bold serial burglar terrorizing delaware county community. >> he strikes after the sun goes down and as fox 29's dave schratwieser reports, police want this guy off the streets before someone gets hurt. >> i try to do all that we can to keep this block looking good. >> reporter: john has lived on clinton road in upper darby for years. last week his neighbors home got

broken into when a burglar slipped in through a basement window, robbed them and escaped. >> they took out some money, the kids money, and her money. >> we lock down went stay in the house. >> reporter: betty brown has lived on clover road for 50 years. tuesday morning, a burglar broke into her neighbor's home the latest in a string of break ins in this neighborhood in the last two weeks. police say a serial burglar is at work. >> i'm scared. you know, you don't want to go out. >> these guys are like rats. he hits and he goes and we surround the area and he's gone. >> reporter: upper darby police say a serial burglar is on the loose and his has hit times in two weeks in the stone hurst section of town. the latest break in occurred tuesday morning at 4:00 their. police say the guy is bold. >> apparently, a 25 year old son went to sleep last night and was talking on his cell phone and left his cell phone on his chest. and the burglar took the cell phone off his chest. >> reporter: detectives say the burglar is targeting homes with open windows or doors, but

woman trying to calm the situation. if you know the attacker or the woman with her, call police. >> happening now, a musical mystery. it has south philadelphia rock and roll legend bobby rydell singing the blues tonight. he's missing a suitcase filled with sheet music which represents more than a half century of entertainment. bruce gordon explains how you can help solve this case. ♪ >> reporter: bobby rydell remembers fondly his wildwood nights, but his newtown square night, that started okay. but ended in disaster. >> i just went -- i just sunk. >> reporter: rydell wrapped up a successful saturday night show at marple newtown high school. packed up his sheet music in a small dark suitcase like this one, tossed it in the back of his cadillac suv and along with his wife and drummer head down media line road toward west chester pike. the windows were rolled up but they all felt a bit of a draft.

my wife look in the rear view mirror and there's the hatch all the way up. so we said, wow, we better stop and see if everything is in there. everything was not in there. the suitcase holding hundreds of pieces of sheet music and arrangements like these was gone. it wasn't just any sheet music. these were arrangements specific to rydell and his band. uniquely set up for his sinkin g and they're playing. >> this is basically the drum chart and then there's, you kn know, tenor one, tenor two, alto one, alto two. >> reporter: each strum has his own -- >> his its own particular arrangement no, it's not just like going into a store, i want that, you know the music and lyric for this song. no, no, it's very important. >> reporter: rydell quickly returned to the scene but the bag was already gone. his wife and other friends have gone back since to look again, but nothing. backup discs helped him make it through a sunday night gig in south philly but fully

they currently pay nothing. the projected $44 million a year in savings will go directly into the schools. teachers contract expired last summer. >> i'm hopeful that the parties will get back to serious regular full-time negotiations. it's all better to negotiate a contract than to have the action taken yesterday, but, you know, we are where we are and it is what it is. and now we need to do what needs to be done which is to educate our children. >> the union says it will fight the src actions in court. >> new jersey high school football program is shut down for the season a mid allegations of hazing and bullying. this is happening at sayreville war memorial high school in middlesex county. the school superintendent says there was enough information to warrant a criminal investigati investigation. school leaders made the decision to cancel the entire season. the case is now in the hands of the county prosecutor's office. >> there were incidents of harassment, intimidation and

bullying as constituted by the definition within the anti bullying statue. >> that decision to cancel the season affects players on the freshmen, junior vairs have the and varsity football teams. four men including a 70 year old are busted during an undercover prostitution sting in philadelphia. the city's vice unit targeting the men and arrested them last week. they confiscated over a thousand dollars and four vehicles during the sting. a 70 year old man from bucks county along with three philadelphia men were charged with solicitation and patroniz patronizing prostitution. both misdemeanor. >> in philadelphia francis section it appeared the search for a pomeranian was over. it happened on the 1900 block of west girard avenue all caught on camera. two men broke no someone' house took a flat screen tv and a four year old pomeranian named chi chi. this afternoon, it appeared the case was involved. opener got a call from police

in one night and in one case, the slow-moving crook was caught on video. the guy is so cool and casual you may think he owns this car. but the car's real owner says the guy you see poking around this toyota corolla is actually stealing from it. >> little does he know he's being watched on camera. >> when i opened the console, cleatly empty. that's i knew i got hit. >> reporter: bob doyle couldn't believe his eyes when he checked this surveillance cameras and saw this. video of a man rummaging through his car for nearly seven minutes while he and his family were inside sleeping on the 2,000 block of colonial drive in croydon. at one point, the brazen burglar even took a rest to light up a smoke. >> he didn't seem phased at all. report roar the man didn't get much. some spare change but it sure wasn't for lack of trying. >> 24 years as volunteer fireman. i'm a war veteran.

couldn't stanley doing things for people, and this is what i get. >> reporter: turns out doyle's car was one of seven hit that night according to residents in this newport village neighborhood. >> they took a piece of mind. >> reporter: this neighbor carl is another victim who says his son can't sleep now after his car and his wife's were broken into minutes later. >> i work hard to have what i have, and somebody is going to come in and take what we work for? i don't think it's fair. >> reporter: in most of the cases the car doors were left open. police say it's a crime of opportunity and in an otherwise safe neighborhood. as for the victims, it's a mistake they won't make again. >> my car will never be unlocked again, and smile, you're on candid camera at my house. >> reporter: well police are still gathering more information. they're afraid there may be even more victims out there. if you know that person in the

video, please call bristol police. iain? >> all right, chris, thank you. here's a look at the man philadelphia police charge in the sexual assault of a woman inside her chinatown art studio. 29 year old brandon menially facing several charges including attempted murder, sexual assault and robbery. investigators say they found menially in a homeless shelter and took him into custody. the attack happened sunday morning. cops say menially not only assaulted the 45 year old woman, he also took off with $600. >> and time now for a look at your fox 29 weather authority forecast we're talking rain and winds tonight as we just saw with chris o'connell and dave kinchen, scott. that's right. you probably are better off with a poncho instead of an umbrella. we're looking at temperatures right now 64 degrees. humidity 87%. winds right now south southwest 15. but take a look at the rainfall causing puddles outside of our studios at fourth and mark. so slick road conditions if you're headed into third shift. right now, as we take a look at

ultimate doppler around philadelphia some moderate to heavy rainfall moving into salem as well as millville. glassboro looking at some of the moderate rain. but you can see we're not done with the rainfall. this is really the first batch moving through right now. off to the west, lancaster county moving into baltimore as well as washington, d.c. even nasty line of thunderstorm activity so not out of the question to hear a rumble of thunder as this system moves through. so on our radar right now, we're watching the system. but take a look at some of the damage reports out into sections of west virginia as well as kentucky. reports of funnel clouds, a lot of wind damage. not really anticipating that as it arrives overhead. but right now we have the thunderstorms moving through as we progress throughout the overnight. winds are go going to be gusty at times up to 30, maybe 40 miles per hour. a half an inch of rainfall on average. but the good news, it's going to be out of here in time for that wednesday morning commute. so quick clearing temperatures bottom around 60 degrees.

you can see right now we're watching pocks of rainfall. some of the heavier activity you can see by midnight north and west where you see the yellows as well as the orange. but look at 4:00 a.m. when you're watching sue. move of the rainfall will be moving out by good day 7:00 o'clock. out to sea. windy conditions turning sunny and clearing. so tonight's rainfall totals on average a quarter of an inch to perhaps a half an inch. higher totals in the lehigh valley and the pocono mountains. lesser amounts once you move down the immediate shore. and what about that total lunar eclipse? tomorrow morning it starts about two hours before sunrise around 5:00 a.m. you can watch it right here on good day. and as we talk about the position of it look to the west. clouds could impact the viewing but once again that system will be moving out and this happens as the moon passes through the earth's shadow. also, a quick note. the tropic as we move toward the pacific take look at this massive typhoon. it's a category five storm.
