with over 500 species of sharks, these majestic animals are the top pdators of the ocean's ecosystems. paul is a leading shark expert an a shark expert on discovery channel. >> because the water is getting warmer, do we see a migration of moref a food source? >> absolutely. when the waters are warmer, there's more ndace in food. that's going to bring in the small predators up to the big predators. >> as sharks move closer to our shores, they sparked fear at america's beaches. this yea there have been more than 25 unprovoked shark attacks in the u.s., and a tragic fatality in the bahamas. s expertsay shark attacks, while dominating the headlines this summer, are actually very rare. it's a message paul shares despite his own experience. ten yrs ago, he was serving in the australian navy, diving in sydney's harbor a part of a drill, when he was attacked by a shark. >> the shark hit me in the leg.

i tried to push it off. i tried to fight it off, but this was a 9-foot bull shark, 600 pounds of muscle. it ended up removing all of my hamstring on my right leg. it took off my right hand. when i was underwater, the shark, the actual attack lasted about eight seconds. >> that was it? >> yeah. eight seconds to change your life. >> he lost two limbs that day, but now the shark attack survivor is their biggest supporter. traveling the world, educating people on sharks. ere have bunprovoked attacks or allegedly unprovoked attacks on places where they're not used to seeing sharks. >> you need to be careful and aware of wha ts going on in area you're swimming. there could be a migration of fish, a migrion of whales, an abundance of stingray. that could bring in a predator. >> paul volunteering to be my guide. we travel just off the shores of nassau in the bahamas to experience sharks in their
