rockefeller plaza. >> good morning, and wcome to "today." thank yo for joining us on this monday morning. i'm sheinelle jones alongside lester holt. >> it was a busy weekend. we do want to get to the breaking news overnight. a mass shooting at a popular festival in california. >> it happened in gill roy, and this video shows the terrifying moments a gunfire erupted and terrified people running for their lives. we'll talk with two women who were caught in the chaos. first, miguel almaguer joins us with the latest. good morning. >> good morning. as gunfire broke out, there was chaos and nfusion. some people in the crowd actually told police they thought there may have been a cond shooter after that first suspect was killed, they immediately launched a massive search for an accomplice, but this morning, there nremainso second suspect in sight and no arrest. just as gillroy's garlic festival was coming t a close,

the guire began. a volley of shots, more than 40, say witnesses, ripping across a crow full of families. >> are we goingo be able to drive out of here? let's go. let's get out of here. >> active shooter at the garlic festival. >> police arrived in less than a inute, engaging killing the suspected gunman who has not been identified, but not before three people were killed and another 15 wounded. >> i saw him walking around and walking up towards us. i grabbed all the kids and ran. >> two more wounded near booth three. >> with the victims trampled in the race to escape, emergency teams rushed the wounded to local hospitals. among the dead, 6-year-old steven romero. his mother and grandmother also shot, but they survived. his devastatedr fathe in shock, rushing to the hospital. >> my son had his whole life to witnesses say the gunman was wearing camouflage type tactical

putting another magazine into it. all of a sudden, he just opened fi and started walking towards our booth. me and my sister ran. we ran in the opposite d wection ofre he was coming from, where he was standing. ow else - i don't know to explain it. it was so fast that it happened. i don'tknow. it was just -- we rannd were hiding underneath, behind -- >> people. >> sheryl, ir understand you boss and her husband were shot and taken to the hospital. updates on rd any how they're doing? >> her husnd is in critical condition right now. he is in critical condition. shes stable right now. he got shot three times. she got shot once. her son - was her son and my granddaughter were also in the tent when it happened. my granddaughter pulled her son under the table. she saw the shooter and pulled him underneath the table and hid underneath the table while he was there.

custody. blindfolsng suspects i illegal in italy, and some italian media have compared it to the treatment of detainees at guantanamo bay. police have denounced it and reassigned an officer involved. police say they confronted the two american over a stolen bag, allegedleing held ransom by the teens after a drug deal gone wrong. they say the man was stabbed 11 times. in a 911 itcall, a wss claimed the suspects fled the scene. how did they escape, asked the dispatcher, on a motor bike, on foot? on foot, on foot, says the caller. a surveillance video circulating widely intalian media and not verified by nbc news appears to shun two peopleng from the scene. elder and york were arrested nearby at their four-star hotel. police say they found a large kne hidden in a ceiling panel. a detention order identified elder as the main suspect. but during police interrogation, authorities say the teens blamed
