>> good morning, it is 6:00 a.m., on this friday, september 19. we're following breaking news. >> a massive fire ravaged a building in philadelphia, parts of the structure collapsed and two firefighters were hurt. >> philadelphia police talk to two more suspects in the violent attack on gay men in philadelphia. >> techies line up to get their handles on apple's latest creation. >> we have david murphy with a look at weather and karen rogers has traffic. >> reporter: it's chilly out here on the terrace. take a look at satellite we have a lack of significant cloud cover over head. i have stars over me and the moon is staring me in the face.

maybe a couple of clouds later on. 51 in trenton. 54 in wilmington, upper 450s down the shore. as we head out the door over the next couple of hours to catch the school bus, jackets weather, upper 50s by 8:00 a.m. mainly clear, a little bit of a breeze around. as we roll through the day, 60 by 9:00 a.m., 66 by noon, we won't hit the 70s until 3:00 p.m. this afternoon and we get a high of 71 around 3:30 before we dip back to 68 degrees by 6:00 p.m. if you're among the many across the region to see high school football tonight. 66 by 7 and cooler than that in the suburbs. karen we'll have more coming up next. >> reporter: more on the breaks news on the kensington fire around american street and west

york street. you meant to avoid this area, stay several blocks away. we'll see closures second, third, dauphin, philip and cumberland. stick to 5th front or lehigh. a number of street closures in kensington. this is affectioning the bus routes. septa bus routes, 39 and 57 with this warehouse fire in kensington affecting the roads as well as septa buses. go to the maps you can get a sense of where where this is in kensington, american street at west york street. 422 at 23, we have a poor guy trying to change his tire, penndot is helping him out. this is eastbound heading toward king of prussia. this is off to the side. we're seeing slowing from trooper to 23. the accident we are talking about in franconia in montgomery county, cherry lane has cleared, matt and tam. >> we're following breaking news that karen talked about, it's a night of chaos in the

kensington neighborhood. a fire in the vacant building went to four-alarms and it has caused injuries. katherine scott is live near north american and west york streets. good morning, katherine. >> reporter: good morning, tam, we're told one man was taken to temple university hospital with serious burns, two firefighters were taken to the hospital. they are in stable condition. they had minor injuries in the process of fighting the fire, sprains, the fire comisher he -- commissioner said, but nothing serious. there's a lot of equipment on the roads. chopper 6 is live overhead and you can see the size of the site and the damage on the 2400 block of american street in kensington. you can see the hot spots that firefighters are dousing right now in an effort to get the fire completely eliminated. the fire was placed under control a while ago. the fire started around 2:30 a.m. when the first company arrived they were met with heavy fire.

the blaze began in a vacant commercial building. that building collapsed which exposed the paper storage facility next-door. that paper company was fully engulfed in flames, twice the size of the first vacant building. the flames were fierce. the fire went to four-alarms. 120 firefighters on scene. they quickly called in additional units because when you have a building of that size you need a lot of water and they had tricky wind conditions. >> because of the size and dimensions of the buildings and how the fire was spreading to that enclosures, once the buildings collapsed. the fire got into the enclosure and borrow of -- because of the paper storage it was a lot of fuel provided. >> reporter: the fire was placed

under control at 4:12. there's a business, a five story furniture company has damage. embers led to the roof there, there could damage there. him but the bulk of the damage was to the vacant building and the two story paper company. as to how this fire started that's under investigation. the fire marshal is under investigation as you can see many firefighters l and i and gg and w. >> police have connected two more -- have questioned two more people in connection with the beating of the two gay men in center city. sources close to the investigation say the incident had nothing to do with sexual orientation, although one of them admitted someone used a homophobic slur. city council jim kenny said the incident points out a need to

add that into the state law adding attacks because of sexual orientation. >> if the state will not protect them, the federal law has a responsibility to protect them. >> he said he sent a letter to the federal lawmakers to take up the case. >> the manhunt intensified in eric frein's hometown of can -- canadensis last night. he is accused of gunning down bryon dickson during an ambush outside a state police barracks in northeastern pennsylvania one week ago. >> a neighborhood eye sore in berks county turned out to be harboring a massive drug

operation. investigators believe the house was in such disrepair the operation probably went unnoticed for years. an unrelated traffic stop tipped off police to the crime. the man was on the way to deliver drugs that were grown in the home. >> you're about to hear about the chinese company called ali baba. >> reporter: the co-founder of ali-baba will make $8,900,000,000. he'll hang on to a an 8% stake in the company. the 22 billion ipo is the talk of wall street. it's one of the largest stock offerings ever. in fact yesterday the dow and s&p 500 rallied to all times high right now.

the hacking at home depot is bigger an target. 56 million credit and debit cards may have been compromised in the attack. 40 million were affected at target. philadelphia has been awarded a 13 million-dollar grant to improve it's infant mortality rate. the city has one of the highest rates in the county, about five of every one thousand babies born died on their first day. this is according to a study from save the children. the grant is from the u.s. department of health and human services. a step aimed toward improving child health and well-being. >> that's a horrible stat. >> reporter: cooler today, nice over the weekend. storm tracker 6 live double scan showing we're dry. as we look outside, we're looking at sky 6.

sunshine. the high will get to 69 in allentown, down the short, 69, 70. down along the beach. sun and clouds, and bright, obviously cooler it's one of those weird days where the ocean temperature might be milder than the air temperature on the beach. 71 is the high inned philadelphia. -- 7 1 is the high in philadelphia, sun and clouds, occasionally you'll have a cool breeze to go along with the temperatures. 8:00 a.m., 57. 11:00 a.m., 64. it will take a while to get to the 70s. 69 by 2:00 p.m., 71 by 3:00 p.m. as we get into saturday there could cloud cover down the shore in the morning with drizzle. generally speaking the order of the day is for high pressure to settle off the coast and front to come in from the west and wrap around flow around the high bringing southwesterly winds and that will warm us up in a hurru on saturday afternoon.

61:58 now, you're taking a live look from chopper 6 the ruins left behind from a fire that broke out at a vacant building in the kensington section of philadelphia. started at 2:30 a.m. quickly consumed the building. firefighters got it under

control in less than two hours. two firefighters suffered injuries. one man, a 45-year-old suffered serious burns. it is under control with firefighters at the scene to make sure it doesn't catch fire again. >> when you look at that scene and how much it's blocked off, karen, it makes sense there's a lot of traffic that's tied up behind this fire in that area. >> reporter: a number of closures to deal with that. it is centered around american street and west york street. the action cam was on the scene when the flames were shooting out. still a number of emergency workers to make sure it's under control. we have second, third, cumberland, dauphin, philip, bodine, stick to 5th front or lehigh instead. this is affecting septa bus routes 39 and 57.

39 and 57 being detoured in the area in kensington because of the closures in and around that. that's not the only problem out there, i want to bring in this camera shot. 422 eastbound in a bad spot approaching 23 we have an accident, you can kind of see it in the left lane, everybody is jamming and getting over to the right to get around it. it's creating a jamup eastbound on 422, a spot that would be heavy anyway. you're jammed from the saint gabe's curve to 23. you have a disabled vehicle with a guy with a flat tire trying to fix it. two bad areas on 422 eastbound at 23 that's the biggest problem on the highway. let's go to the big picture and show you the slow speeds in and around. i-95 27 miles per hour

attack sends a high school football to the hospital. >> apple frenzy hits the delaware and lehigh valleys. >> good morning, 6:30, friday, september 19. david murphy it's a cold morning to be sitting outside that apple store and karen rogers has the latest on a major backup in the morning. >> reporter: i'm glad i'm out here for only a couple of minutes. it's chilly and slightly breeze and sun coming up over the horizon. i saw a leaf fall from a tree back there. there's a sign of things to come. take a look at satellite, not a lot of significant cloud cover around. 52 in wilmington, and 50 in allentown. the shore 58 degrees. by noon we'll be in the mid 60s. we'll wait until 3:00 to get the 70s and we'll only be there for an hour or two. 71 is the high around 4:00.

6:00 p.m., 68. if you're heading to high school, bring the school jacket with your letter on it. 66 degrees by 7:00 a.m. 60 by 10:00 p.m. when i step back inside we'll have a warmup for the last full day of summer. i'll have that coming up. in the meantime, what are the roads and rails looking like. >> reporter: 422, that's the problem we have right now. as we look live on 422. look at this traffic. eastbound we have two problems, we have an accident approaching 23 blocking the left lane. a disabled vehicle at 23. eastbound traffic from oaks to 23. it's a 25 minute ride from oaks to 202 with no delay it would be seven minutes. usually at this hour we see nine minutes we're looking at 25 minutes. it's a significant delay on 422 eastbound jammed solid because of two problems a disabled

vehicle own accident eastbound at 23. meanwhile, we want to go outside live and check a different scene, look at the smoke billowing out out in kensington. that's because of the warehouse fire. this is creating problems with traffic. this is the warehouse fire under control, we're seeing lots of closures in and around it. you'll see closures on third, bodine, philip, cumberland, dawf if i dawf -- dawf if i know. they say -- dow if i know, affecting bus routes and affecting the roads with the warehouse fire. one moorish we want to mention, tacony-palmyra bridge is up, traffic is stopped, head to the betsy ross bridge instead. >> let's get back to the breaking news, a massive fire ravaged a building in the kensington section, walls collapsed and three people have been injured including two

firefighters. let's go "action news" reporter, katherine scott at the command center live with what's going on right now. hi catherine. >> reporter: hi matt, the cause of the fire remains under investigation. the fire marshal is on scene. as you said three people were injured, two firefighters have minor injuries they were taken to the hospital in stable condition. one man one civilian was taken with severe burns. burns over 80% of his body. this remains an active scene here in kensington. firefighters are still blasting water at the site. now that it's lighter out you can see how smoky it is. thick smoke has filled the air all morning long as they continue to battle the fire. crews have been working to extinguish the hot spots. crews are blasting water at the flames that remain. chopper 6 is over overhead from above you can see the size of the site. the damage on the 2400 block of american street in kensington. there's pockets of fire, but crews have made a lot of progress. this is what it looked like earlier.

exterior tact. >> reporter: and back here live in kensington, you can see fire crews are blasting water at this site from all different angles, you can see pockets of flames that remain, the fire was placed under control at around 4:12 a.m. there's a third business on the corner a five-story furniture company that has some damage embers on the roof. but the bulk of the damage was in the vacant buildings and the two story paper company. firefighters believe the man injured was in the first vacant buildings when they arrived he was running out he was on fire. he was taken to temple university hospital with severe burns. the two firefighters suffered minor injuries. katherine scott channel 6 "action news." >> thank so much. take a look at this i've been spending this mac book computer controlling the camera on chopper 6. using the curser here. i meant remains over the scene right now.

fr -- eric frein, a tip sent police to the area where his family lived. neighbors were not allowed to get into their homes until late last night. >> we have our guns loaded, doors locked and the dogs have a room in the house. >> reporter: there's no sign of frein. else accused of killing bryon dickson and wounding another trooper at pike county last week. >> 6:37 now, a man who was captured in florida has been charged with the murder of his ex-girlfriend in delaware county. lowry has been a suspect in the killing of griffin ever since her body was found strangled in her upper darby home. he showed up at a police station in jacksonville, florida driving griffin's car and acting suicidal. they had a young girl together

>> 6:44, the folks who live in the kensington neighborhood and the neighborhood surrounding that philadelphia section are waking up to the smell of smoke from this massive fire that broke out at this warehouse along north american street. it grew to four-alarms. it is under control. two firefighters and a civilian have been injured.

firefighters are pouring water on this buildings it's pushing out more smoke than it has in the last couple of minutes. >> talk about a picture that tells the story, you can see all the fire trucks that leads to road closures. >> reporter: even the smoke that's billowing out. it's north american street and west york street. the action cam was on it is scene earlier, as well. we can see a number of crews out there. watch for closures, along second, third, dauphin and cumberland, stick to lehigh, front or 5th as the alternate. they are detouring septa bus routes 39 and 57. even though the fire is under control. you can see how huge this blaze was and the problems it created. another problem 422 eastbound is a mess, this is a live look approaching trooper. look at this traffic. you're hardly moving on 422. stretching for miles eastbound

traffic jammed past 29 to approaching 23. we've got an accident approaching 23 blocking the left lane, a disabled vehicle at 23. of so you have two problems that are creating a backup. you want to guess that traffic will be about 3 times what it normally be, that's what we're seeing currently, i think that could grow if they stay out there. 422 creaghts a problem. we have -- creating a problem. we have all kinds of issues popping up. 309 at line lexington road we have two disabled vehicles. 309 at north broad street we've got a problem here, as well. a number of issues that keep popping up. washington lane at cheltenham avenue we have a vehicle fire. marlton 73 southbound at brick road, an accident there, as well. meanwhile, no weather-related problems, 59 degrees, not as cool as yesterday morning, even though we're off to a cool start. the high 71, sunshine and clouds, we're dry today, tam.
