outside, looks wet, no big dealment walk down the front steps, it happened to me last year even in the parking lot. it happened in my driveway last year it, happens to everyone, just be very, very safe. grab on, make sure you have some stables out there you know try to walk on the treated roads if you consideration walk on something that's been salted. you don't want to try to walk on untreated surfaces here this morning. see how the rain is moving in in philadelphia. starting to change over to mainly just plane rain, but look at where the pink shade something. up in our north and west suburbs, the area i'm more concerned about at the moment. as you head newspaper portions every upper bucks montgomery county, lehigh valley. still certainly icy spots in the city specially untreated surfaces if you are walking in the city, walking on any of the untreated sidewalks problems out there. as far as the roads are concerned, more dangerous as you head up to the north and west where temperatures are still hovering below freezing at this hour around allentown be help -- bethlehem easton, pottstown, those areas could still have slick spots not only on the ground and on untreated areas but also even on the roads and that could lead to hazardous travel. still 31 in reading if it is raining there, that rain can be freezing on contact, same story for you even in delaware temperatures cooled enough i would be concerned about freezing rain in spots here. in philadelphia, it is 34, 36 down the shore so that is generally warm enough that this is mainly going to be rain and specially as you head toward the coast through the rest of the day icy mix still though to the north and west specially changing over it plane rain, from south to north, through the course of the afternoon, 38 degrees will be the high today. then tonight down to 29, with

that rain, ending as brief mix of snow and sleet. then it is cloudy and breezy overnight down to 29 degrees. now, of course we've been checking out the roads in person with the cbs-3 mobile weather lab meteorologist carol ericson joins us live with what she is seeing in allentown. this is the kind of hill you don't normally see unless you are in manayunk. this is allentown south 12th street. look at this i was also very interested in the fact that everybody on this street, and we've seen a number every them, walk in the street. and obviously the reason is because the streets are at salted, the sidewalks are not. and you could not get up that hill if you tried to do it on the sidewalk. so everybody in this area with all of these hills and they know that they come by here with the salt trucks, seen some of them out here, and they'll do the streets that's the place to be versus the sidewalk. of course it makes it more difficult with drivers and that sort of thing so everybody has to pay oh, wow pay particular attention we haven't been down, okay, the 45 agree angle, and i'm just really hoping that this was salted as we go down this hill in allentown because this is about steep hill. my photographer and driver this morning says yes slipping a little bit. we come to up this yield sign. where ever you are mobile weather lab temperature right now, is 33 degrees, you know what? depending on elevation, you can find it at 32, you can you can find ground frozen for so long so cold, so take it east

we would love to see your pictures, as well, tweet them with the hashtag cbs-3. hey, road crews have been spreading salt all night long, hoping you avoid the impact of this wintery mix. >> yes, seems not so much the roads, the sidewalks that might get you. >> sure. >> "eyewitness news" reporter jan carabeo conshohocken with the latest on the suburb roads, good morning. >> on the untreated surfaces like the sidewalks, but behind me, see on the roads, looking pretty good. no big problems to report this morning. coming to you live from front street, and fayette street where you can see, the traffic is moving smoothly although the cars are moving a bit more slowly this morning. if you take a look at the video, you can see that penndot crews were out all morning long, to make sure the morning commute went as smoothly as possible. the entire fleet is out that's 182 state trucks penndot called in extra contractors, as well, so more than 200 trucks were out here salting pretty much all morning long, came in at midnight, out here ever since, this is what they call a sledding -- spreading solution today. that is they just put the salt down, no brine being used, and that's because a lot of that solution was left over from last week preparation for last week's storms. >> salt residue remaining from friday. we placed salt down, earlier in the week, on tuesday, when the snow hit the region, then we had squawls come in friday morning, in which we put salt down so we thought there was considerable amount of salt on the roadway that did not necessitate the brining operation today.

>> and back out here live on scene, you any see a lot of those salt trucks, still on the road, as you head to work and to school. of course we aren't through it completely just yet still right around freezing here, and could you still encounter some slick spots. but, for now live in conshohocken, jan carabeo "eyewitness news" on the "cw" fill. >> i jan thank you. right now we'll get the latest on the system and check in with kate and our weather watchers. good morning. >> good morning, everyone, let's take a look what some of the weather watchers are reporting this morning and while we're looking at temperatures just slightly getting above freezing now we start off here at 34 degrees, this from phil and love his picture there in front of our logo in philadelphia, 34 degrees, and he's reporting still some rain coming down. phil says fortunately not much ice. he sent us this picture, let's peak what phil has going on right here. looks like chestnut hill if i'm not mistaken, looks like everything is a-okay in this area. roads look wet sidewalks watch out for the sidewalks could still be icy. thank you for that. not too much ice right now in chestnut hill. also got this observation from alley, 34 degrees here, she's in merchantville, new jersey, and she says a dreary morning with a light steady rain, but it is mainly rain in merchantville, new jersey, and she sent us this shot, this beautiful as well. looks good here in merchantville. looks wet but fortunately not that much ice. at least in that part of the region. take a look what we're seeing now on storm scan3 we pull that up for you. see most of this is now rain moving in from the south and it is also bringing some warmer air n as the rain overtakes the region, floater icing begins to diminish. look at the pink here up

across the pocono region, northeastern pennsylvania, northern new jersey into southern new york state north of new york city the area that will have the threat still for significant icing i'm concerned about carbon, monroe counties, winter weather advisory for the pocono region goes in the 12:00 tonight. sleet, freezing rain, even some snow mixing in, as well. but in the city of philadelphia right now mainly rain untreated surfaces sidewalks, front stems, will be icy. but the main roads are faring pretty well. warm air kind of intruded just in time. again that winter weather advisory until 5:00 p.m. in the poconos 1:00 p.m. in the lehigh vale, 10:00 a.m. for philadelphia and all surrounding suburbs, that looks pretty much right on target, it looks like just rain and that rain will be with us through the afternoon. look at wilmington, still below freezing, any rain that falls there temperatures below freezing, 31 in reading 34 degrees right now in allentown, so we're marginal temperatures right about at that point where it could freeze or could fall as plane old rain. >> changing over to rain in the lehigh vale, change over to plane rain has pretty much happened in philadelphia mainly all chilly rain in new jersey and delaware all day long. now, meteorologist carol erickson is in allentown with the cbs-3 mobile weather lab. we'll take a look and see what she is seeing out on the roads, carol? >> we pick up about .5 of an inch of rain over the last couple of hours here in the allentown area. we take a look, south 14th street, and we are crossing the april pro re atly named hill street. we are about to head downhill. one of the things that is so

noticeable around here, the number every people that walk in the middle of the road, and these are not roads, look at the angle on this one. because the streets with a angle like this, are salted, the sidewalks are not. but now that daylight is starting, and it is getting a little bit later in the morning, we've noticed people are out and they're throwing some salt down on some of these sidewalks. we've seen reports checking the latest report for doylestown poconos reading harrisburg and trenton, all of them reporting freezing rain, at their sites. and in wrightstown out in burlington county, some light sleet has been reported. these temperatures are running about 32, 33 degrees, so, you mention that they're marginal. and they are. you could go one way or the other. the other thing that i have ' lots noticed while coming down as just regular rain here in the allentown area, it is falling over sidewalks that are very ice-covered. so you can see, puddle of what looks to be water, underneath that, you're going to be finding a sheet of ice out there. so i think the watch word, your own steps, handrails, could very much and problem. sidewalks are probably a problem. people are walking in the roads, a lot of them, and as the temperatures woman up south to north we should start to see an end to any of. >> this but again tonight these temperatures will be dropping back below the freezing mark, and there goes one of the very welcome salt trucks, and that's going to be causing a re-freeze on anything that hasn't evaporated. so i think while the problem will eventually be ending, and the winter weather advisory ends here in allentown at 1:00 this afternoon i think

there could probably and problem little later on tonight once the temperatures continue to take their plunge downward, once again, you can see them out here, in front of this apartment and they're spreading the salt on the street, making it safe for everyone walking down in this arm it is not an easy morning to be out and becomes and double hard because it is monday morning. seems to be no one's favorite start to the weaker specially with weather like. >> this so we will continue to check this for you. right now we head back into the studio and jessica? >> carol, yes, glad you're nice and safer and you have great driver. because the roadways are slippery. no one likes monday mornings as it is, and we don't like them when they're slippery and a mess and have to leave earlier. we definately know that. over on 95 approaching the betsy ross bridge here in the southbound lanes, you can see pretty big jam up there. northbound lanes moving along just little better. but out in new jersey on the 42 freeway, see little foggy visibility conditions. southbound lanes not too bad. northbound lanes pretty typical, most of the delay and back up. so is northbound into the city possibly or 295 interchange where you will see most that far delay and back up there. and slippery, slippery conditions. now, out in lower merion, accident at riders mill road at headaches ford road. travel times, 295 northbound from route 168 into 38. about 26 minutes there really heavy and on 55 from route 322 into the 42 freeway northbound about 14 minute pretty slow but you can go little slower than. that will we will be okay with it, ukee, back over to you. >> thank you in sports, college football crowns its national champion top.

north, right now that's where we can see significant icing. the rain is starting to diminish the ice threat in the city falling pretty steadily right now warming things up. winter weather advisory see the times it expires since going until 5:00 p.m. in the poconos, 1:00 p.m. for the lehigh vale, 10:00 a.m. is what that -- when that winter weather advisory expires in philadelphia, and the nearby suburbs, so, headed toward the ends of the icing threat in the city but still watch for slick spots. notice even cities like wilmington delaware, below freeing, reading still below freezing, very close in allentown, so with temperatures this close to the freezing mark you got to -- can't rule out again those slick spots. still wintery mix all day in the poconos sleet freezing rain changing over to rain now in the lehigh valley. mainly rain in the sit hire on out, watch for the slippery spots specially walking. see how the roads are faring, headed toward the pennsylvania turnpike with meteorologist carol erickson live in the mobile weather lab. hey, carol? >> people are moving around like it is 75 and sunny even with the rain coming down, temperatures at 32 degrees right now, in upper macungie township. just left allentown and headed to the pennsylvania turnpike. the cars are moving along with no problem. probably due in large part, to the fact that the temperatures have been whoever erring just above and below 32 degrees but the salt truck have been out here, and aided completely. get off on some of the side streets however with the temperatures around the freezing mark, and the streets or the sidewalks have not been treated. you are in for a problem. so we watch the rain continue to come down about as heavy as we've seen it so far this
