temperatures. melissa. >> walter, the heat and humidity we had earlier today definitely fueling strong showers and storms across much of the delaware and lehigh valleys. stormtracker 6 live double scan radar giving you a wider picture of what is going on across the region and we're finding storms across the areas in lehigh, montgomery, and bucks county and a lot of active sti north and east. there's another cluster to the south and west of philadelphia. we'll go in tighter on stormtracker 6 live double scan street-level for areas in say him. cumberland, newcastle. kent counties there and delaware. tracking showers and storms. moving east 25 to 30 miles an hour you can seeelmer to down south to smyrna a lot of lightning sosh yaitded with this we're tracking showers and storms throughout much of the evening and into tonight. we've also seen storm damage to report so far today. wind damage and upper frederick township in montgomery county, trees and fires down and

springfield township in bucks county winds as high as 50 miles an hour lightning and rain. when you go to abington we had lightning strikes and in fact a lightning report strikeing a house there in abington. west chester with the flash flood warning posted earlier today we picked up 2" of rain in a short amount of time. stormtracker 6 double scan 3d showing you the broken line of activity tracking to the north and east and in the wake of that we have improvement on the way for the second half of the weekend. coming up walter we'll look at future tracker 6 and time out the showers and storms and let you know when the cooler air will arrive with the full and exclusive accuweather forecast. >> thank you, melissa. a lightning strike was the cause of fire at a home in abington. it happened 5:00 in the 1800 block of harding avenue this video was shot by a viewer on the scene in fact he's a photographer with the rosalyn fire company. initially there were fears people were trapped inside that house. but, everyone did make it outside safely.

and it took about an hour and a half to get this under control. as you can see the home endured heavy damage. it was the heat that was a problem for students participating a cross counterry tournament at central bucks south today. several were sent to the hospital for heat related injuries. there at least 10 athletes from schools became sick. 8 boys and girls were transported as a precaution to the hospital. no life-threatening injuries reported. >> before the storm hit sailor he's to be rescued before high winds flipped their brought. it happened battery park and newcastle. two men and women were pulled from the water and it took crews half an hour to pull the boat from the river. no one on board was injured. >> breaking news a double shooting in the cobbs creek section of philadelphia leaves one man dead. this happened a few hours ago in the 5300 block of angora

terrace. kenneth moton is live on the scene and kenth what can you tell us at this point? >> reporter: walter, not only are homicide detectives here, narcotics officers are on the scene after that deadly shooting down the street. take a look at this video. philadelphia police got the call around 8 p.m. on the 5300 block of angora terrace in cobbs creek. investigators say there was a confrontation in the doorway of a house when one pulled out a gun and shot the other that lives at the homech the man in his 30s was shot once in the chests and once in armpit. he was pronounced dead on the scene. the bullets also hit a 24-year-old man open the head and right side of body. he was discovered on the steps of the second floor and transported to the hospital of the university of pennsylvania in extremely critical condition. during a search, police found more than 30 marijuana plants in the house and they don't know if the shooting was drug related but there were three witnesses in the house who were giving investigators details about the deadly shooting.

>> sources on the scene indicate that the shooter came to the scene to confront the male that lives at the address. the confronttation occurred in the doorway there at which point in time the suspect produced a hand gin and fired multiple shots at the resident there. >> investigators state gunman ran off on foot dropping evidence including stack of money in the street. once again it appears the gun man was known to the victims. police are hoping to get an id as soon as possible to find him. once again one man dead and another one extremely critical condition at a nearby hospitalch the names of the victim were not released. we're gathering more details and will have the latest on "action news," walter, reporting in cobbs creek, kenneth moton, "action news" at 10 on phl17. >> thank you, kenneth. three armed robbers made off with a safe during a home invasion in east oak lane today

it happened 4:00 this afternoon on the 100 block of west cheltenham avenue. the men burst into that home where they hoisted the three foot safe. no word what was inside. investigators say the owner of the safe put up a fight and may have actually injured one of the thieves. investigators in philadelphia looking for these two mavrked thuingz who held up a convenience store in keng cecing. one man pointed a gun at the clerk and the second suspect rushed behind the counter stealing cash and cigarettes. surveillance captured the robbery at too good food store 1300 block of south 58 street this happened early in the morning august 28. both men got away. nobody was injured. 6 people are homeless tonight at a fast-moving fire in west philadelphia. it happened overnight on the 4100 block of ogdon street. the fire was well involved when firefighters arrived on the scene they got there to find flames shooting from second floor. people inside were able to came

on their own. a sixth needed help and were able to get out. nobody was injured and no word yet on how the whole thing started. well some volunteers in bucks county dedicated to preserving memories of those lost during 9/11 traveled to new york city today. the action cam was on the scene there at the garden of reflection in lower makefield as the group of 31 left for the world trade center museum. the visit offers this group a chance to reflect and tour the museum before next week's anniversary. the same group will lead remembrance in light ceremony at the garden of reflection on thursday. >> president obama is delaying action on immigration reform until after the november elections. it's a decision that has activists saying he's putting politics above principle. and back in june the president pledged to reform immigration policy by the end of summer. and but white house officials say the president decided that executive action during the midterm campaign would po lit size the issue. that decision has akty visits

"abc news" was told the president will take action on the issue before the end of the year. joan rivers funeral service is set for tomorrow in new york city. river's daughter melissa left her mother's apartment this morning traveling with her mother's body to the funeral home. rivers kissed the coffin before transported to the crematorium. a state investigation is now beginning to look into the circumstances surrounding her death. rivers, 81, died thursday. she suffered a heart attack while undergoing a routine outpatient procedure at a clinic in new york. it was a celebration of life and love in philadelphia. a local woman who suffered a serious injury was married today during an emotional ceremony magee hospital.

annie mccormick has that story. >> minutes before heading down the aisle the bride got the finishing touches for her big day. outside at the altar on the rooftop in the searing son she looked anything but the nervous groom lashing i smile. four weeks ago this couple of more that a decade didn't have a care in the world and while on vacation a freak accident in hotel tool in jamaica paralyzed cerea and she remains in the hospital and today. >> i'm feeling wonderful. >> ironically you it's not about the accident. it's more about we thought we had all the time in the world. and looking at her when the accident occurred, you know you wake up and realize, what are you waiting for. >> and the couple say they knew they were soul mates 13 years ago. when they decided to tie the knot at magee rehabilitation hospital the hospital did everything they could to throw this together last minute. >> it was a lot of pressure to get it before the heat came down

>> storms blew through the midwest last night leaving hundreds of thousands of people without power and they could be in the dark for days. in the detroit area winds gusts of 75 miles an hour brought down thousands of trees and power lines. crew from pennsylvania, ohio and wisconsin are now traveling to michigan to help out. with that said, meteorologist melissa magee joins us again with the accuweather forecast. melissa. >> walter we're tracking that same cold front that moved through the midwest yesterday. it's working its way through much of the delaware and lehigh valleys. and even though we're tracking pockets of strong to severe weather across the region, that line is weakening as it works east ward. we'll talk more about that a moment. we'll pop out the weather window. part of the reason we have strong showers and storms tonight. heat and humidity. high in the city climbed up to 93 degrees. twelve above where we normally should be this time of year. average for us 81. two degrees shy of the record.

95 setback in 1983. and as you look at the numbers. outside tonight, north and wet of town, slatington 62 getting rain, cool air moving in now and also to fleetwood and lower 6 0s. pottstown 70. st. davis 70. st. davis lower 74. lower 70s in chester and down across areas in south jersey and delaware, temperatures are in the 70s. ewing 72. cinnaminson 73. hockessin 72. here's satellite 6 along with action radar. what we're tracking is now what looks to be a broken line of showers and storms from new england all the way down across areas in the ohio valley and we still have a little bit of activity that is starting to push away from areas in lehigh, montgomery, and bucks county. and but there is still weather to track down across areas in south jersey and areas in newcastle and kent counties and delaware as the showers and storms continue to move on through. and the good news, severe thunderstorm watch that we had up until 9:00 has since expired.

and you have the dew points outside and any time you have dew points in the upper 60s, to above 70 degrees we're dealing with a very oppressive air mass. you probably felt that humidity when you stepped outdoors. you have added moisture that helps to ring out a lot of unsettled area across the area. future tracker 6 has you covered 11:00 tonight we're tracking a little bit of activity and stays mainly south and east of philadelphia and as we get to the overnight hours we get clearing and you notice as you wake up, 7:00 in the morning, the back cloud cover starting to exit out of allentown and pressing south and east. it will continue to do so as you get a northerly wind. that will drain down cooler air at 1:00 in the afternoon. and in fact, check out the temperatures north and west of our area tonight. and green bay, 57, 65 chicago and 70 in charleston a piece of that cooler and more importantly, drier air with low humidity, moves in for the second half of the weekend.
