city royals in a dramatic fashion. for fans at home, excitement boiled over. fireworks was the start of a big party and gave night to mayhem, unruly celebration and fire and stepped up police presence. officials say overnight, at least two people were shot. another was stabbed. unfortunately, none of the injuries were life-threatening him back if kansas city, fans celebrated peacefully. >> three world series in five years. are you frigging kidding me. >> reporter: are you guys used to this? >> you can never get used to this. >> reporter: in kansas city, it gave way to a sense of pride, baseball ended if disappointment, one victory shy. >> it's a bummer, but we not to the end. >> reporter: throughout their run, much was made of fans. 29 years, fact the longest route for any pro team in north america.

case hi kaci hickox briefly stepped out. >> reporter: this is in a small town about a mile from the border with canada. but this is where kaci hickox lives with her boyfriend. she is not backing down with her fight with the governor of maine and health officials, she says she's healthy, she's not contagious and she's not deterred. >> i still believe i'm fighting for something much more than myself. >> reporter: kaci hickox remains defievent, emerging from her home for den minutes to tell reporters she not back down. >> i am completely healthy. you could hug me. you could shake me hand. there is no way i will give you ebola. >> r. >> reporter: her first fight was wednesday on "today." >> i believe this is not scientifically judged. >> reporter: she says she's tried to negotiate with the state, agreeing to travel only in her own car, having health workers check her temperature

daily. maine officials insist that's not enough. >> staying at home for the duration of this 21-day period, november 10th being the last day does not seem like a burdensome request to ask. >> i don't want to hurt anyone in the public, but i don't think this is an acceptable line to be drawn. >> reporter: maine officials announce they're seeking a court order to keep kaci hickox from her home. >> we are hopeful the selfless health workers who were brave enough to care for ebola patients in a foreign country will be willing to take reasonable steps to protect the residents of their own country. >> reporter: at the white house with ebola survive kent brantley called them good health heros and urged the strength. >> they made huge sacrifices to protect this country we love and when they come home, they

deserve to be treated properly. >> reporter: but despite the president's concern about mandatory quarantine, the defense department is doing zwlau, isolating all military person fell who travel to west africa at this army base in northern italy. the state department isn't following suit. there is for the blanket quarantine for u.s. diplomatic personnel, including samantha power who says she will follow local laws when she returns for the the region. for kaci hickox, she is forced to wait on the state. >> the state of maine courts, we'll wait and see. >> reporter: hick cox says she has not decided whether she will leave her house. she has been getting support from her neighbors. a with the him of maple syrup with a note saying, few feed anything, get if touch. >> stephanie, thank you so much. new jersey's governor chris christie has been front and center in that controversy. he find himself in another one

political backlash. >> i don't worry too much about public perception. you know, it depends on your day, kelly, if people will love you or hate you. >> reporter: that crowd in new jersey applauded and cheered. how will his leadership play out, between election day tuesday, christie will campaign in fine states for republicans all across the country. this evening it is in the political hot spot of iowa. >> will you have people complain about both side, when politicss speak through filters too much and now obviously people complain when they don't use filters. >> he says what he wants when he want, that's for sure. all right, investigators in virginia are now focusing on the engine for the possible cause of that massive explosion during the launch of an unmanned rocket to the international space station. nbc is near the launch pad if wallops, virginia. good morning. >> reporter: the focus is on the

engine. it looks like that's where the failure occurred. right there at the first stage. these engines were made by the soviet union 30 years ago for the safety space program but they were never used until now. more than a full day after a rocket exploded on its virginia launchpad the people who saw it are still talking about it. >> we saw the light. we heard the sounds and then we felt it. it was amazing. >> reporter: search teams have only started the process of recovering the rocket debris. among the areas investigators will look at the rocket's engines, two of them built by the soviets during the cold war in the 1970s that refurbished by science. competitor elon musk the sfound founder of spacex said it was a joke. former space station commander frank culbertson now works for

is any contamination taking oil, air and ground samples. so far they see nothing and for the observed impact so far on wild life. back to you. >> tom costello, thanks a lot. >> natalie is back from an assignment. she is talking more about the lava flow. >> reporter: it continues to threaten dozens of homes on nbc's pahoa island in hawaii. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, natalie. this, this right here is the way of life in this picturesque small town community as the lava'ss closer and closer to this very road behind me. right now that flow is about two football fields off the street. it could cross the road possibly tonight or overnight into tomorrow. in fact, in some places, the lava is pooling at one spot 100 feet from somebody's house. it's incinerateing everything in

its path. that's health concerns, the capitals in the thick black smoke. right now, it's path is fairly narrow. but it could widen. later this morning, 80 national guard members will be on these streets and at checkpoints patrolling the police to try to limit the access to the lava flow, people coming to this spot to witness history. >> thank you. a jet on a military training exercise crashed if southern california wednesday killing the pile. the crash sent a huge plume of black smoke into the sky about 65 miles northwest of los angeles. it happened before the jet was supposed to land at a military base there. no one on the ground was hurt. the cause of the crash is still unknown. well, kids, you know, they say the darnedest things. former florida governor jeb bush told nbc news exclusively he is not ready to jump into the 2016 race just yet.

company to come out publicly. it's a really compelling piece on the website in the article that just posted, in fact, cook wrote this. while i've never denied my sexuality, i haven't publicly acknowledged it either until now. so let me be clear, i'm proud to be gay. i consider being gay one of the gifts god has given me. here's what the editor had to say about cook's big announcement. >> he is a very private guy. he has a long balanced desire to be private and do his work. with that question, what are you doing for other people? ultimately, he determined that it was worth sacrificing some of his private views to step out if you say the ceo of apple is gay and help other people. >> although that announcement came down minutes ago, we have seen comments on our page. adrian bradley wrote, i'm pleased that tim cook has come out. i know it shouldn't matter, but

history. the morning, we pay be one step closer to finding out what happened to her. investigators believe they have uncovered the most significant clue to date. >> reporter: it could be the break the world has been waiting for, a piece of metal that may have come from amelia ehrhardt's plane, a group of doinged investigators believes this 23 by 19-inch alluminum is from the fuselage of her plane which disappeared over a remote area of the pacific ocean in 1937. >> on a scale of one to ten, how confident am i that this artifact is the patch from ehrhardt's airplane? i'm at 9.8 that. >> reporter: that so-called miami patch can be seen in this flaf. it was a make-shift repair made in miami covering what had been a window on amelia's plane. the mysterious artifact was

found by rick gillespie and his wife on the shore of a tiny place more than 2,000 miles from hawaii. 77 years ago, she took off here. this was an airport back then. today it's known the amelia ehrhardt park. when she took off, she had that patch, it could be like a fingerprint to help solve this enduring mystery. >> the tans from here to this feature here is perfect. >> reporter: it's the puzzle piece gillespie and others with the his tore irk aircraft recovery say lines up in uncanny fashion. >> true independent measurements appear to confirm the fingerprint is the same. >> reporter: but the smithsonian curator dorothy cochran is skeptical. >> it is a circumstantial piece of evidence.
