A Brief Description of the Program
In this episode of Mike Stokey’s Pantomime Quiz Time, Marie Windsor, Fritz Field, Paul Cavanaugh, and Glen Langan compete against Jack Coogan, Frank Devol, Fred Clark, and Adele Jergens. Within this game show, two teams of four celebrity contestants compete in five rounds of a game of Charades. In each round, one member of the group silently acts out a phrase while each member of that group attempts to guess it. Each team consists of three regular players and one celebrity guest. There is a scoreboard charting the points. The team that guesses the most amount of phrases in the least amount of time wins the game. In this episode, Coogan, Devol, Clark, and Jergans won. Mike Stokey’s Assistant, Sandra Spence holds up a sign listing the phrase or saying to be performed, as well as timing each contestants performance. Of the terms and phrases performed, some of which are lines of a poem, riddles, or gag sayings sent in by home viewers. Those that sent in ones that were used earned cash or a prize. A bonus was given if the team trying to solve it could not do so within two minutes. “Pantomime Quiz Time” ran from November 13, 1947 to October 9th,1959, and aired on all four Television Networks in the U.S. within those years. In 1954, this episode was broadcast on DuMont Television Network. Mike STokey was both the Producer and Host. This episode was directed by Wesley Barry. The show is presented on a set staged as a living room, shot in front of a live studio audience as to recreate the popular Parlor game.. Years later the show was renamed to “Pantomime Quiz”, ABC being the next Television network to overtake it on January 22, 1955. The show was also known as “Stump the Stars”.
