classic country AND western television
The Ozark Jubilee ran for 5 years on ABC changing its name ultimately to Jubilee USA. Originating out of Springfield, Missouri, it featured national names in country and western music. This representative episode includes a gospel song by the men's quartet, square dancing by the Tadpoles, cornball humor from Uncle Cyp and Aunt Sap and name stars (Rex Allen, Sonny James and especially the sweet as peaches little dynamite discovered on the show 13 months earlier-Brenda Lee). ABC canceled the series abruptly in 1960 giving the time to the Gillette fights. Possibly host Red Foley's tax fraud trial may have been a factor as his show;s persona had been one of genial warmth and sincerity.
