john, what we've got yeah. and a solid start to the new month. we saw. >> a nice round of sunshine and warmth yesterday and today we're actually going to be even a little bit warmer yet. >> bay bridge behind me looks nice with that sunshine overhead and getting a little peek of that sunrise now well over the horizon from mount tam skies are going to stay clear all day long today, wind for our inland areas, vacaville and fairfield around 30 miles per hour. gusts right now, high wind advisories out towards the central valley. lot of us a lot calmer near the bay shore. now temperatures are a little chilly to start. so don't forget that extra layer over the next hour or 2 40's to 50's for our current temperatures later on today, though, it is going to be right back to the 60's 70's and even a couple of low 80's. it's not going to stick around, though. another weekend cooldown in a another chance of rainfall just around the corner, which i'll get to your full forecast. back to you. all right. let's take a little ride around the bay and check out the commute before you head out the door and into traffic that you weren't expecting. look, it's not bad.

>> at the bay bridge, just lots of sunshine in your rearview mirror. if you're heading from the east bay over into san francisco's just 15 minutes through the maze right now, the san mateo bridge westbound 90 to the right hand side. that's gotten a lot busier like double the drive. time from about a half hour ago. so now it's 28 minutes 80 to 1, 0, on westbound 92 on the right hand side. you can see this slow traffic. it's a little slower at the richmond. sandra fell bridge. that was to some more people are up. and adam today you can see it's a 13 minute ride and then from warren county into san francisco. if you're starting in nevado and highway 37, when you work down to this spot, it will be 21 minutes, which pretty much is at the limit. >> 71 is the time 702, now and this morning we've got the golden gate ferry service between san francisco and sausalito. >> working so you don't have to be in a bus over the golden gate, you can just say lawn and i think they should be showing off for the first shortly. here michael thomas is live in such a way michael.

>> hey, good morning, everyone. you just missed all the dozens of people getting onto that ferry. unfortunately, all move out the way so you can see it is here and it has not been working for at least the past 2 weeks or so. but i did speak with a few of these commuters who say they were actually taking the bus over and the reason that it you know, shutdown essentially was because of part of the bridge was they needed to replace part of the barriers. and so they said that was really just closed out of precaution. but let me sir, can i ask you do take the ferry every usually usually how did you get there without the ferry being reading? >> the bus, you see it there and we still have people coming in this morning who are just trying to get on for that first very. but there was a lot of excitement, ma'am. can i ask you really quick now? she's got her headphones and well, hopefully in the next hour you'll hear from some of these commuters. overall, what i heard from people, some people actually still took the bus this morning because they were nervous that it wasn't going to open, but it got here right at 705. and we'll give you that live. look before i

send it back to you, too. in the studio. >> because you said it takes off at 705, >> thanks, michael. all right, 703, is the time. >> entire world to this encampment and other cameras around the country across the world. that not about the university not about it is going get with a lot? >> yeah, this is the other big story that we've been following. these pro-palestinian protests are continuing in several college campuses nationwide, including right here in the bay area. in fact, this is video of the tents that are covering the quad out of san francisco state university. the protesters there say they're pushing their university and u.s. officials to disclose any expenditures at the college may have with foreign investors. that's what they want to see happen. and over uc berkeley, more and more tents are popping up at sproul plaza. you can see them here. >> this protest is now in its

second week and today, faculty and staff plan to join the demonstrators at noon. they are calling on the university to divest from israel. now take a look at what's going on at stanford. there's protesters there as well. camped out and some are facing disciplinary actirn. they say now from the school, the students say some of them got letters from the university for participating in a protest. >> it start off with 19 for out of like 2 or 3 more. can't exactly remember who have gone letters from the office of community standards and are basically being put through their internal disciplinary process. the language is very vague. >> so they would like a clarification on the language because they want to know exactly what kind of punishment or penalties they face for doing this demonstration. we did reach out to stanford asked, but we haven't heard back yet. >> well, in the south bay today, students at santa clara university will be joining in on those protests they want administrator is to pressure the government to end military funding to israel. organizers

of today's solidarity demonstration are asking people to gather on campus at the alameda lawn from noon until 08:00pm. >> and with these protests escalating around the bay and around the country, congress is looking at what to do to prevent anti-semitism. house republicans are launching an investigation to into the federal funding tied to the university and they're also pushing for to pass new anti-semitism laws. we have dc correspondent hannah brandt with a closer look. >> house leaders accuse university officials of failing to keep the protests under control and they say not enough is being done to protect jewish students. fireworks erupted at ucla and protesters clashed on campus >> across the country of colombia, new york police stormed university building to arrest dozens of protesters who have been occupying it. this thing is out of control from capitol hill. lawmakers are watching with concern and house speaker mike johnson warns if universities don't get the chaos under control,

you will see congress respond unkind. you're going to see funding begin to dry up. you're going to every level of accountability that we can muster. he says several house committees will investigate the protest and may decide to take away federal funding. and this week, congress is gearing up to vote on a bill to change the federal definition of anti-semitism under anti-discrimination law. the rampant anti-semitism. requires action by the federal government. congressman mike lawlor introduce the legislation and supporters say it would allow universities to crack down on harmful speech. this is not the free marketplace of ideas. >> this is open threats to jewish students because of their faith and who they are. but some worry it goes too far like congresswoman teresa ledger, fernandez, we're constitutionally bound to protect. >> free speech, even more importantly, when it is speech with rich. we do not agree. and congressman pete aguilar prefers letting universities respond. they have guidance. they have they need to enforce

those before congress. kate snow once the white house as well, president biden does support peaceful protests. he is concerned about antisemitism on campus and doesn't agree with protesters occupying university buildings. >> in washington, i'm hannah brandt. >> all right. thank you. and we'll continue following the latest with those demonstrations. but also in the news today, we have 450 homeless families in san francisco that will now soon receive financial help. they've been chosen as part of a five-year pilot program funded by google and a local nonprofit. so half will receive $1000 a month and the other half will receive just $50 a month. it's all part of a study into show that guaranteed basic income programs can work to combat poverty and homelessness. the payments will be distributed exclusively to families who are about to lose access to city funded housing subsidies. the program is all part of a broader 1 billion dollar effort by google to increase the bay area's housing supply. in the east bay. the alameda county board of supervisors has voted to certify the results of the recall petition

for district attorney pamela price. this comes as the state now is launching an investigation into one of the groups behind that recall effort. price. as in december, her campaign team filed a complaint against the group claiming that it did not comply with certain laws that govern all political committees in the state. but this recall investigation could take up to several years and penalties could range from a warning to fines, but it will not have an impact if voters decide to recall price in the end. time now 708. now now that the recall signatures are certified. the county board supervisors has to set a date for the recall election kron four's dan kerman now. >> walking us through the timeline of this recall process. >> this is a frivolous, fraudulent and road are only u.s. election campaign to recall da price. alameda county is at a re us but da price been in office. i have no trust in pamela price. ask me, i am a victim's family. the problem is not pamela price. the problem is the

people who are getting a lock the people who are using drugs. and are out the streets and they're creating all kinds of crime. now that the board is move forward to certify the results, they will hold another meeting on may 14th to set a recall election. >> the special election can be set 88 to 125 days in the future. alternatively, the recall can also take place during the november 5th general election, which would save the county a boatload of money. if the recall is successful in prices voted out of office, it will be up to the board of supervisors to appoint someone to take over the appointed da will serve 2 years until the next general election in november of 2026, whoever wins that election, we'll finish out prices term which runs until january of 2029. supervisors. no, the da pamela price believes the recall is illegal because the process did not follow the county's charter. in fact, one

county supervisor said she hopes the county is sued. so a judge can make a final determination on that. >> nevertheless, the board of supervisors is moving forward on the recall. they will hold a special meeting on the 14th of may which point they will set a date for that recall election. dan kerman kron, 4 news. >> 7.10, right now and less than 2 weeks after cutting 14,000 jobs, tesla is going to lay off even more hundreds more employees, including 2 senior executives. there's a report in the tech site, the information and they say that elon musk sent a letter to those executives saying that any employee who doesn't pass the quote, excellent necessary and trustworthy test would be out of a job. a previous report by bloomberg says that tesla could end up cutting more than 20,000 employees in total. we don't know yet if or how or how many of these jobs are in the bay area. it's 7.11 and still ahead on the kron, 4 morning news.

layer of hanging out across the bay. >> and we can actually think some of that wind for it that northwesterly breeze has swept things out already for us. we've got the east bay hills looking really nice on such a crystal clear start to this morning. >> today is going to be another gorgeous one. i already mentioned the winds breezy out towards point raise as well as in the delta and the central valley winds out of the north and west are resulting in some gale warnings up and down the north coast of the state as well as some wind advisories in effect through 05:00pm today for solano county as well as out into the central valley side for some breezy conditions for a few spots that high pressure ridge is in place in keeping conditions out there very favorable for getting outside the next couple of days today through friday will continue to look at warm temperatures. lots of sunshine really, really inviting conditions. come saturday, though, a huge change of pace, cold front dives in from the north and along with that comes a rapid cooldown in temperatures as much as 20 degrees cooler come

saturday of this weekend. we showers now models are indicating around a 3rd of an inch to three-quarters of an inch of rainfall for the bay area. as we move into saturday. so maybe not the day to plan a whole lot of time outside. it's almost like clockwork here that we have these really nice work days. and then right in the middle of the weekend is when we see our rain now, this is a late season system right here. we are going to see, as i mentioned, at least a 3rd of an inch of rainfall for urban areas in the day. come saturday, you head north of the bay area and it's multiple inches of rain and the sierra is actually going to see some even lower snow line elevations. that is going to mean snow down into the foothills and a couple feet of snow at the crest of the sierra. nevada said not done building that snowpack just yet temperatures today. you'd never know. we have that. we can cool down because it is going to be actually a little bit warmer than yesterday was daytime highs rising well into the 60's 70's to even the low 80's and a couple of spots south bay temperatures will be just shy of the 80 degree mark in san jose mid to upper 70's

across the east bay hayward and richmond at 74 while conquered pittsburgh and fairfield are 3 warmest spots. each hitting that 80 degree mark today, tomorrow's temperatures as well as friday's very similar to today's lots of sunshine, really inviting conditions. saturday comes along and you see that temperature plunge barely make in the low 60's with rainfall likely throughout the day today. that storm is out of there on sunday, john, because when you're saying though, and it will be is give you a bit breezy freezes good. yes, we >> all right. well, let's take a look at the traffic in here. we've got the bay bridge toll plaza where you're looking at conditions moving. well, it is building, though, 18 minutes to get from oakland and san francisco are was checked the san mateo skimmers to f 35 minutes. everybody's up unless you're a motorcycle split lands, which takeover fast? i was worried about looking at the richmond center fell bridge. >> 13 minutes, the drive times

bizarre. a bee keepers. bees were stolen. her entire colony of 15,000 bees and the queen, which she had put out because she had a special event and she has been a bee keeper in oakland for 3 decades. never saw anything like this. she was about honey tasting events in her rockridge neighborhood saturday morning for some kids and she set up the table with this be observation. hive went back to grab the honey. and somebody swiped the bees. >> and saying the kids come looking for that observation hive or to see the bees and then having explained to them. that they got stolen. and that somebody would steal bees is really. disheartening to me. just getting tired cycle. we're not coming out of hand feeling really. and representative policymakers. >> and really, it sounds to her like it was just people

a really bad at the san mateo bridge westbound 90 to the right hand side earlier this morning. you know, we're looking at a normal drive time like 15 minutes, but you can see it's 40 minutes. so there are delays at the san mateo bridge. that is the hot spot at the moment because the richmond fell bridge is fine. 14 minutes, as you can see here, all the lanes are moving ll plazas pretty well. and then if you're going from nevado at 37 down to the golden gate bridge, once you're on the deck, it's free and clear just a little bit sluggish going on. highway one on south through marion county. >> ok, let's go to the south bay where a brothel was busted by police in san jose following a months long investigation was just in somebodys home. they arrested a man for pimping. let's take a closer look now at what happened. 2 weeks ago. this house right here that's moving out was the site of a police raid where officers say they busted a commercial brothel. >> police say they've been looking at this home of 16th and saint james since november. tuesday evening, a

moving truck. the men here speak mandarin and tell me they were hired to move belongings out of here. they say they don't know anything about what happened here earlier in a broad week or 2 ago or use in its recently moved into the neighborhood and says a bunch of police officers showed up 11:00am several days ago busting what they say is a commercial brothel. >> disturbing details to shun who is a san jose state student for sure show. i mean, like any crime is a concern to but especially since i live like right across the street, police also arrested shoe chain the 53 year-old man now charged with pimping and pandering. they found 2 women living in the home who they say are possible human trafficking victims along with a bunch of cash and has been going off. hello, neighbor's of includes by say this has been going on for months. >> bound to have eye. it's been going off to fight 4th of july last year. anthony garcia has lived next door here all his life and says he's seen men come and go out of this house since last summer. just

their union contracts are going to expire soon and they don't have a new deal. thousands of janitors have been taking to the streets and they will continue to do so as their union. meantime, negotiates trying to reduce what they call excessive workloads and make things safer. they say that janitors get hurt a lot. according to the department of industrial relations, one-third of janitors in california were injured on the job last year. if they can't reach deals and the janitors plan to strike as early as may 7th. >> also happening today, we've got students from across the oakland unified school district planning a walkout in solidarity with the university protests in support of the people of palestine. oakland tech high school is going to be one of those schools from around the district participating. their walkout is scheduled at noon today. they're going to have students and teachers speak about the events unfolding in gaza. meantime, 50 former google employees are filing an official complaint now against the company for what they say is on lawful termination was 2

weeks ago that those employees were holding sit-in. protests google offices in sunnyvale and new york. the company fired him last week after finding out. their identities. the workers filed a complaint saying that google unlawfully retaliated against them. the protesters say they want their jobs back and they want google to allow workers to protest without retaliation. >> it's 7.35, a crowd for your local election headquarters and the recount is half done and the highly contentious race for silicon valley. 16th congressional seat. yeah, that's the latest. so we've got santa clara county. they finished part of their their part of the recount. san mateo county, which is the other county that has to do a recount. >> says they've also completed, but they haven't announced the results are going to that today. kron four's catherine haena takes a look. >> santa clara county voting officials say their recount shows evan low picked up 11 additional votes. joe summit, ian gained 7 so low lead summit, ian, by 4 votes in santa clara county. but that does not answer the question

of whether low one san mateo county still has more than a dozen challenge to ballots and omficial there told me they have finished counting them but won't announce the results until wednesday after campaign attorneys and others get a chance to review the numbers. meantime, sam liccardo published an opinion piece in which he again rejects claims that he's behind the recount because a former staffer named jonathan padilla requested it. he says the fact that padilla is a supporter of mine is not remarkable. every independent expenditure committee in history has been created by a candidate supporter. i think the cargo is doing the smart thing, which is. >> he's trying to get ahead of whatever the results are because someone is going to win that was going to lose and where it's going to lose main all probability trained, blame liccardo the fact and said of the 3 person race, it's a 2 person race. michael yaki also agrees with carter's call for.
