authorities believe he had been up to. here's what we do know. the fbi is looking for ryan chamberland ii. agents say they found explosives in his san francisco apartment and that he should be considered arm and dangerous. we go to cara liu, where news of the search has sent shock waves across the city. >> reporter: this is a guy who by all accounts was a pleasant neighbor, was active any community and knew a lot of the major problems in san francisco politics. an fbi raid saturday with agents in hazmat suits were a scare to neighbors. >> explosives there's no chemical, bilogical or radiation known at this time. >> reporter: police announced a

in san francisco. ktvu's patti lee with the labor dispute that's prompting some munni operators to stay home tomorrow. operators started staying home yesterday afternoon. in numbers that could be -- now a contingency plan is in place. >> we have people on stand by to fill runs of operators that do call in sick. it's something that we'll be able to fill some of the runs and most efficient service that we can. >> reporter: calling in sick was optional, that many drivers didn't have any sick time left, they told us. the root of the problem is the

labor contract operators signed on friday. by law their union can't strike but workers can call in sick to show their displeasure. >> there's a lot of stuff going on at munni that we don't know about. they're upset. >> reporter: riders say they will be hugely inconvenienced but understands why drivers might decide to stay home. >> depends on how long it is, if it's just one day to get the city's attention. >> reporter: there's no way to know if and how many drivers will skip work tomorrow but it will do its best to keep service going. in san francisco, patti lee, ktvu channel 2 news. and more details now on that proposed contract. it offers raises for the next two years. if ratified drivers would get paid $32. they would also take over a

a 2.0 earthquake rattled southern california. the epicenter of the quake was 4 miles from santa monica . so far there are no reports of injuries or damage. police say 71-year-old joseph baruo nakamura admitted to killing his wife. she was the founding owner of akos restaurant. the general manager of that restaurant remembered ako tonight as an amazing woman who was honorable and kind. a man who slammed his vehicle into a patrol car was arrested for drunk driving. it happened this morning at

hazaway avenue. the patrol car was hit head on. the good news nobody was hurt. hayward police have taken over the investigation from the chp. today the coroner identified the man who died in a head on crash near sonol as todd ritzo of livermore. as we told you last night, the accident happened around 5:45 p.m. on highway 84 just east of interstate 680 in alameda county. police say he was driving a red taurus that drifted into oncoming traffic and slammed into a big rig. the big rig driver and a woman driving a white suv that slammed into the big rig were both treated for minor and moderate injuries. now to our continuing coverage of the release of the only american soldier held captive in afghanistan. tonight 28-year-old bo bergoll is in a hospital just one day after being freed by the taliban. today bergdoll's parents sent a message to their son. >> i love you. i'm proud of you, i'm so proud

last year. officials say we are indeed in for a very long fire season due to the extremely dry conditions caused by the ongoing drought. anyone wanting to conduct an agriculture or land management burn must apply for a permit with calfire. they must also make sure they're in compliance with air quality regulations. a biotech company in the central valley wants to accomplish california's newest cash crop. stevia first is working with farmers to grow the sugar replacement. china grows most of the world's stevia and it's a great opportunity for the state. >> california is the perfect place for growing stevia. california's central valley has tens of billions of the dollars in agriculture exports every year. >> the world health organization estimates that stevia will replace up to 30%

bad conditions on mount rainier are preventing crews from recovering the bodies of six climbers believed to have fallen 6,000 feet to their death. park spokesperson said frequent falls of ice and rock make the area too dangerous for rescuers. air searches will continue. the california men among the missing, hegman also led tours up shasta. a plane plowed through a wooded area about 2,000 feet off the end of a runway just outside of boston last night. neighbors reported seeing a fire ball and felt the blast shake their home. the gulf freedom four was headed for atlantic city new jersey. faa officials say it never got off the ground and that there

now to election 2014. as voters head to the polls on tuesday we're learning that early voting numbers turning up to be quite disappointing. in fact, the voting is on track to be historicically low here in the bay area. unless there's a surge at the

polls on election day. cristina rendon has more now on the turn out at alameda county. >> reporter: while volunteers open, sort, and count an unusually low number of absentee ballots just down the hall it's even quieter. empty booths as people trickle in. >> it's lower than what we would see on a governor's primary. >> reporter: of the counties 800,000 voters, about 35% usually turn out for a primary. but this year may be different. >> right now we've received about 83,000 vote by mails out of 400,000 that we sent out. so it's about 10% so far but we're going to see more turned at the poll and hope to see more on tuesday. >> reporter: the county hopes to see all of these machines running but at the end of the day they're down to one. showing how many few ballots
