college campuses across the country in new york, columbia university only allowing students and essential employees on campus in northern california, a journalist was detained overnight. >> and sea lion surge. if you're going to pier 39, you'll be greeted by a record number of them. >> i love them, yeah. >> they're great. we're just talking about this. yesterday, we really were. >> i feel like we made this happen. >> welcome to tuesday, april 30th. >> well, let's check on your forecast. >> yeah i'm looking to. >> it's nice. we'll have a nice warm day today. the only issue will have some gusty winds close to the coast. here's a live look from the tam cam this morning. we have clear skies everywhere. we're not going to be dealing with any fog this morning. and the big headline today is that sunshine is here. we're underneath a warmer pattern today, but the coast will be windy this afternoon. those winds between 20 and 40mph away from the coast. the winds will not be as active temperatures this morning. we're starting out mainly in the 40s, so there's a

little bit of a chill in our atmosphere. that jacket certainly take it with you this morning, but also take the sunglasses because we have a very bright looking forecast. low santa cruz in the background . we have that bright morning. your sun's up here very shortly at 614. your sunset is later. look at that at 8 p.m. now. so we're getting longer and longer days. we'll have that windy coast with temperatures in the 50s away from the coast. we'll get into the 60s and 70. so 69 in oakland today, a mild 72 in san jose, 64 in the city, a windy 58.5 moon bay, a pleasant 73, in napa. stephanie. >> all right, drew, thank you. developing news now on the pro-palestinian protests on college campuses across the country. the demonstrations are escalating and police continue to make arrests overnight. a reporter from our abc affiliate affiliate that is in redding was at the protest at cal poly humboldt, and she was detained. and it was actually caught on her live stream. officers told her to put her phone in her

pocket. but here is some of the audio of her detainment. >> and then put your hands behind your back. >> wait, i'm pressed. wait. can i at least touch my boss? >> yeah. hey, she had the opportunity to leave. this is a crime scene. it's been declared a crime scene. >> the press knows that. we're on campus. we're in a protest against. >> police. we're on campus doing a protest sweep early this morning when the reporter was detained. gloria is at the live desk now with more on what's happening at other campuses. gloria. >> good morning. stephanie a tense police standoff is unfolding at the university of utah. officers ordered the crowd there to disperse. that protest formed yesterday morning, and the university said students are not allowed to camp on campus overnight. police are using riot shields and pepper spray as they move in on a new encampment at virginia commonwealth university. officers tore down the camp last night. the

university says the protest was violent and violated policies, with final exams about to begin at new york's columbia university, students forced their way into overnight, barricading themselves inside. the school is suspending students who refuse to leave. and just before 4 a.m, administrators announced they are restricting campus access to students and essential staff, and cornell university is also suspending students who refuse to move their protest to another location in. >> these repulsive scare tactics mean nothing compared to the deaths of over 34,000 palestinians. >> protesters are demanding their universities divest from weapons manufacturing companies and other businesses that support israel. many are also calling for a permanent cease fire in the israel-hamas war. u.s. officials are asking for a temporary pause in the fighting.
